ROH THE BATTLE LINES ARE DRAWN

ROH THE BATTLE LINES ARE DRAWN 01/10/04

AJ Styles vs. Homicide
When talking about ROH WOTY contenders for 2003, Styles was #3 in my eyes (Joe = number 2) & Homicide was THE wrestler of the year for the company, so safe to say that on paper this match-up looked quite promising. It sadly wasn't very compelling at all though -- there were a few good moments, especially towards the end as the match got more & more vicious as it went on, but ultimately the 20+ minutes they went dragged like a mofo. Solid psychology with the bodypart targeting & all, but yeah, the work here just didn't capture my interest much at all for the vast majority of the bout. **

Bryan Danielson & Samoa Joe vs. Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe
This is on par with Joe's match alongside AJ Styles against The Briscoes. The thing rules, to put it simply. Bryan & Joe are all kinds of awesome when they're working over the Briscoe Bros, wrenching their arms, stretching them boys out & blasting them with vicious strikes. Briscoes are great as well with especially their heat segment on Bryan being absolutely lovely. ***3/4

Ace Steel, CM Punk & Colt Cabana vs. BJ Whitmer, Christopher Daniels & Dan Maff
The heel-face roles in this are a bit confusing given the whole backstory leading up to the match, but everybody plays their roles in solid fashion regardless. It's a solid match too, but really nothing to write home about; goes on for a long time, and other than Dan Maff's very nice FIP segment, there really isn't anything noteworthy about it. The pure post-match chaos after the bell rings is unironically more memorable & better than the actual match in all honesty. **1/2
